Pierre Guicheney

Pierre Guicheney (born 1954, France) is a writer, film-maker and performer. A member of Jerzy Grotowski’s Theatre of Sources project from 1979 to 1981, he was one of the founders of Gruppo Internazionale l’Avventura, a research group founded by Grotowski’s companions in Italy (1980–1983). After his first contacts with Haitian Vodou rites during the Theatre of Sources years, Guicheney continued in his search with the Gnawa tradition in Morocco and the Yoruba in Nigeria. Along with his total personal involvement in the Gnawa path, Guicheney has structured his life and sponsored his work through journalism, writing and documentary film-making in the fields of folk memories and archaic traditions, mostly in Africa and his native region of France, La Mayenne.
