Marcin Napiórkowski researches ‘modern mythologies’, mostly collective memory and popular culture, using the tools of semiotics and structuralism. In his work, he examines how different social groups use available media and practices to create stories that satisfy their thirst for meaning. Marcin Napiórkowski works at the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw. He graduated in cultural studies (Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw, 2006) and sociology (Institute of Applies Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw, 2008) and received his PhD in philosophy at the School of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2010). In 2013–2014, he completed a post-doctoral internship at the University of Virginia, and obtained his habilitation in 2015 (cultural studies).

Napiórkowski has written scores of research papers, articles for the general public, and books, such as Mitologia współczesna (2013; Modern Mythology), Władza wyobraźni (2014; The Power of Imagination) and Powstanie umarłych. Historia pamięci 1944–2014 (2016; The Uprising of the Dead: A History of Memory 1944–2014). He publishes a blog focused on cultural semiotics, Mitologia współczesna (Modern Mythology), focused mainly on the modern forms of mythic imagination. (www.mitologiawspolczesna.pl).
