Jürgen Holtz (born 1932, Berlin) studied at the Weimar Theatre Institute and the Theatre Academy Leipzig. After engagements in Erfurt, Brandenburg and Greifswald, he joined the Volksbühne, Berlin, in 1964, before moving to the German Theater in 1966 and the Berliner Ensemble in 1974. In 1983, he left the German Democratic Republic. This was followed by engagements in the Munich Kammerspiele, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Mannheim National Theatre and the Berliner Ensemble. Jürgen Holtz was awarded the 1993 Gertrud Eysoldt Ring, the 2004 Hessian Culture Award, the 2013 Theatre Award Berlin, and the 2014 Konrad Wolf Prize of the Academy of Arts.
