Jacek Kopciński is a literature historian, theatre critic, editor-in-chief of Teatr monthly, head of the Centre for Research on Contemporary Polish Drama at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and lecturer at a number of Warsaw universities. He is the author of two monographs on the playwriting and theatre work of Polish poets Miron Białoszewski and Zbigniew Herbert: Gramatyka i mistyka. Wprowadzenie w teatralną osobność Mirona Białoszewskiego (1998; Grammar and Mysticism: Introduction to the Theatre Personality of Miron Białoszewski) and Nasłuchiwanie. Sztuki na głosy Zbigniewa Herberta (2009; All Ears: Zbigniew Herbert’s Plays Scored for Parts). He has also published a volume of theatre reviews, sketches and conversations, Którędy do wyjścia? (2001; Which Way to the Exit?), and edited the two-volume anthology Transformacja. Dramat polski po 1989 roku (2012–2013; Transformation: Polish Drama After 1989). He is the originator and academic editor of the series Dramat Polski. Reaktywacja (Polish Drama: Reactivation), in which noted literature and theatre historians present new editions of Polish dramatic work after World War II. At the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, Warsaw, he organises the annual Marathon of Radio Programmes NASŁUCHIWANIE, and leads open seminars on Polish drama at the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, Warsaw. He wrote the piece Port Miron, directed by Paweł Passini at Przemiany Festival, Warsaw (2012). Since 2008 he has been a member of the chapter of the Gdynia Playwriting Award. He contributes to Teatr, Dialog and Teksty Drugie. A new volume of his theatre sketches, Powrót „Dziadów” (The Return of Forefathers’ Eve) is due out in the autumn of 2016 (TEATR.KRYTYCY series).
