Weronika Szczawińska

Weronika Szczawińska (born in 1981) is a director, dramaturg and cultural studies scholar. She graduated from the Cross-Faculty Individual Humanistic Studies at the University of Warsaw. She also studies directing at Warsaw’s Theatre Academy. Szczawińska works with theatres across Poland and collaborates with art galleries. She creates performances, texts and installations in collaboration with Agnieszka Jakimiak, Krzysztof Kaliski and Piotr Wawr Junior. She has been nominated to Polityka weekly’s Passport award (2014), and is the Artistic Director of the Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz, Poland.

Her directorial credits include: Jackie: Death and the Princess (2008; Stefan Jaracz Theatre, Olsztyn), How to Be Loved (2011; Baltic Dramatic Theatre, Koszalin), RE//MIX Zamkow (2012; Commune/Warsaw), Turtleneck Genius (2014; National Old Theatre, Kraków), Area of Research: Girls’ Literature from the Poznań District of Jeżyce (2014; CK Zamek in Poznań and Commune/Warsaw), Disasters in the History of the World (2015; Wojciech Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz), Wars I Have not Lived Through (2015; Teatr Polski in Bydgoszcz), The Pornography of Late Polishness (2015; Labyrinth Gallery, Lublin). As a dramaturg she has worked on Bartek Frąckowiak’s In Desert and Wilderness: Of Sienkiewicz and Others (2011; Jerzy Szaniawski Dramatic Theatre, Wałbrzych) and Komornicka: A False Biography (2012; Hobo Art Foundation, In Vitro Premiere Stage, Teatr Polski in Bydgoszcz).
