Grzegorz Niziołek (born in 1962) is focused on 20th- and 21st-century theatre, the Romantic tradition in Polish theatre, literary criticism, the latest developments in Polish and European theatre, and the relationships between theatre and history. His essays appeared in the volume Sny, komedie, medytacje (2000). He published a book on Krystian Lupa, Sobowtór i utopia. Teatr Krystiana Lupy (1997) and one on Krzysztof Warlikowski, Warlikowski. Extra ecclesiam (2008). His monograph Ciało i słowo. Szkice o teatrze Tadeusza Różewicza came out in 2004. He has compiled two anthologies: Od Wyspiańskiego do Grzegorzewskiego (1999, with Tadeusz Kornaś) and Zła pamięć. Przeciw-historia w polskim teatrze i dramacie (2012, with Monika Kwaśniewska). Grzegorz Niziołek is Professor at the Jagiellonian University and the PWST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków. As Literary Director of the Stary Teatr (2004–2007), he initiated re_wizje festival and was Artistic Director of its first two editions which focused on contemporary adaptations of Romanic and ancient classical texts. From 2008 to 2010, with Agata Siwiak, he was Artistic Director of the Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival in Łódź. Grzegorz Niziołek co-founded the theatre journal Didaskalia, of which he is Editor-in-Chief.
