Apply for workshops in October

Workshops for actors will be held in October as part of the Main Section. Leaders will include artists and teachers who develop their own performance work methods.

Tadashi Suzuki and Kameron Steele: Culture is the Body (15–16 October 2016)

Training exists, then, not only to grow our capacity in each of these functions independently, but also to deepen and fortify their interrelation. The more we are able to fluidly expand the process of producing energy, taking in oxygen and maintaining balance with our centre of gravity, the more variety of movement becomes available to us, which in turn increases the stability and sustainability of life. Essentially the same principle can be applied to acting on stage.

Apply by 30 September.

Alexey Levinskiy: Meyerhold’s Theatre Biomechanics (20–24 October 2016)

Biomechanics helps the actor to feel and understand his scenic presence (in time and space) – it teaches co-ordination, balance and how to precisely execute the tasks set by a director while developing creativity and providing tools to compose movement activities.

Apply by 5 October.

Elena Floris and Carolina Pizarro from Odin Teatret: Dynamics and Coordination (21–23 October 2016)

The training will be in two parts and will focus on the exploration of physical, vocal and musical material, forming a strategic basis for the creative performer. Working principles are: strength, energy, concentration, breathing, balance and coordination.

Apply by 5 October.

Donald Kitt from Odin Teatret: Sticks and Stones: A process in search of hidden meanings (21–23 October 2016)

The workshop will focus on several aspects: the performer’s physical training; the development of actions inspired by the use of an object; vocal exploration: the discovery of an individual rhythm, spatial awareness and dynamism. The workshop aims at encouraging a personal process opening up hidden meanings.

Apply by 5 October.
