Social attitudes are now becoming highly radicalised and polarised with the theatre turning into a battleground – not only for different aesthetics and outlooks, but also for political ideas. The language we use in these disputes is changing too. It is often the case that press coverage after a performance focuses more on the atmosphere surrounding it than on the performance itself. How the position of the artist is changing in this context? Where and how can artists find artistic independence?
